Polyaspartic is newer and more advanced than epoxy. The key differences:
Cure time: Polyaspartic cures in one day. Epoxy takes 3-5 days before you can use your garage.
UV stability: Polyaspartic won't yellow in sunlight. Epoxy will discolor over time in garages with natural light.
VOC emissions: Our polyaspartic formula has zero VOCs. Epoxy has significant VOC levels during application.
Flexibility: Polyaspartic is more flexible, meaning it resists cracking and peeling better as the concrete expands and contracts seasonally.
Epoxy is slightly less expensive upfront. Most homeowners find the polyaspartic performance advantages worth the small price difference.
For most homeowners, yes. Polyaspartic outperforms epoxy in UV stability, cure time, VOC emissions, temperature range, and long-term flexibility. The only area where epoxy has an advantage is a slightly lower upfront cost — typically 10-20% less. But given that a quality polyaspartic floor lasts 15-20+ years, the additional investment pays for itself quickly.
Polyaspartic coating is not a DIY product. It requires professional-grade diamond grinding equipment to properly prepare the concrete surface, and the coating itself has a very fast working time — meaning it must be applied correctly the first time. Improper surface prep is the number one cause of coating failure. We've seen many homeowners attempt DIY epoxy kits, only to have them peel within a year. Professional installation is the only way to get a coating that lasts decades.
Installation & Process
One day. We arrive in the morning to grind, clean, and repair the concrete surface, then apply the polyaspartic coating. The floor is fully cured and ready for vehicles by evening. This compares favorably to epoxy, which typically requires 3-5 days of cure time before the garage can be used.
Yes — please clear all vehicles, tools, and stored items from the garage before we arrive. We handle all concrete preparation (grinding, cleaning, crack repair) as part of the installation. You don't need to clean or treat the floor yourself. We'll walk through anything specific during your free estimate.
Yes, in most cases. Minor cracks and surface imperfections are repaired during our preparation process. Significant structural cracks may need additional remediation before coating. We'll assess your floor's condition during the free estimate and advise you honestly on what's needed.
Polyaspartic has a wider installation temperature range than epoxy — it can be applied in temperatures as low as 30°F, making it practical for Northern Virginia winters. Epoxy typically requires temperatures above 50°F. Optimal results are still achieved in moderate temperatures, and we'll advise on timing during your estimate.
Cost, Durability & Maintenance
Pricing depends on garage size, existing concrete condition, and the finish you select. Professional polyaspartic is a premium product with a 15-20+ year lifespan — not a big-box store epoxy kit. As a general guide:
One-car garage (~200 sq ft): $1,500 – $2,000
Standard two-car garage (~400-500 sq ft): $3,500 – $4,000
Larger spaces: Priced per square foot — call for a custom quote
Surface repairs, metallic or quartz finishes, and SwissTrax modular options may affect final pricing. The best way to get an accurate number is a free on-site estimate — call 703-936-9006 or request online.
A professionally installed polyaspartic coating can last 15-20+ years with normal use. It resists hot tire pickup, oil and chemical spills, impacts, and heavy loads. Periodic resealing every 5-7 years (depending on traffic) extends the coating's life further.
Polyaspartic is very low maintenance. Sweep or dust-mop regularly to remove debris. Mop with warm water and a mild pH-neutral cleaner as needed. Wipe up spills promptly. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners or steel wool. That's essentially it. Most coatings benefit from a light resealing every 5-7 years — we're happy to advise on care specific to your floor at installation.
Yes. Zero VOC means zero harmful emissions during or after installation. The cured surface is completely non-toxic. Many of our customers specifically request polyaspartic over epoxy because of the safety profile for their families and pets.
